Bring In the Slabs!

There are few things more exciting for kiln dryers and wood enthusiasts than a load of slabs arriving at the shop. Once those slabs have been stickered, sealed, and prepped for the kiln, it's just a matter of weeks before they become quality dried lumber ready to sell or turn into a new project.

Thoroughly dried live edge slabs have become a valuable commodity, especially in recent years, and the iDRY kiln has made an indelible impact in this process. The iDRY's ability to dry wood in 1/3 of competitors' time and with 1/3 of other systems' loss makes for a genuinely incredible result, every single time. The low-pressure vacuum chamber uses less heat than other kilns, contributing to these brilliant results.

Since dried lumber sells for approximately 30% more than green lumber, taking the time to load the kiln properly is more than worth it. A lot of physical work goes into loading each layer manually but once you’ve got it stickered, and if you have some forklifts handy, it’s actually pretty fun.

Most slabs tend to sell to local contractors who use them primarily for restaurants and offices. In particular, live edge has grown in popularity because of the unique qualities of every single slab. Many companies know that the key to intriguing customers is making their business stand out, and a conference table or bar made from a one-of-a-kind slab of wood does that perfectly.

For many working in the wood business, whether that be sawyers, arborists, or makers, the entire process is a labor of love, and it shows in the final product. The care that everyone involved in the process takes transfers all the way down to the finished creation and will result in happy customers every single time.
