Good Times and Serious Craftsmanship with Genuine Timbercraft

Good Times and Serious Craftsmanship with Genuine Timbercraft

I’m sure most of us have encountered the old saying “Do what you love and you’ll never work a day in your life.” at one point or another. I think most of us can also say that it doesn’t necessarily ring true, especially in an industry like ours. Working with trees, milling, drying, and making is all hard work, but we love it anyway! The satisfaction that comes from the process is extremely rewarding and makes the hard work worth it. That being said, even the most skilled and seasoned in our line of work knows that every tree and every build is different, and the amount of effort it takes to have things come out right can never be underestimated.

Another great benefit of woodworking is the connection we make with our collaborators in the industry as well as with our clients for who we get to build one-of-a-kind furniture and incredible projects for. While no one can deny there are always some frustrations to being a small business owner, the key is passion and for most of us the benefits above will always outweigh the less glamorous aspects. At the end of the day, it’s hard work there’s no doubt about it, but it’s work that’s easy to do with a smile when you love it.

Genuine Timbercraft and their Genuine love of Timbercraft!

A great example of those who love what they do despite the immense effort, attention to detail, and occasional stress the profession demands are the folks over at Genuine Timbercraft. They have a mission to, in their own words; Provide people with super rad wood and wood products from locally salvaged trees. A mission that they deliver on in spades.

The team at Genuine Timbercraft embraces the passion they have for their business, customers, and the industry wholeheartedly. When you read their “about” section, one of the first things that stands out, before anything else, is how they like to have a good time while taking their craft seriously! They describe themselves as being passionate about creating unique products and pride themselves on the ability to divert lumber and trees out of the waste stream to give them a second life as a polished, high-end, one-of-a-kind, custom, solid wood product.

The Origin Story

So how did this rad company come to be? Well, it all started when Dylan decided to leave the mortgage business to pursue his dreams of turning salvaged trees into useable products. There was also John who is described as having been a part of the journey from nearly the beginning, always there to add in some laughs and joy along the way to keep things fun.

Eventually, the two also partnered with Dustin, who they describe as the equipment guru. A man who can get a discount on almost anything, and then also run that equipment blindfolded with one hand tied behind his back!

The trio came together to form Genuine Timbercraft as we know it now, a company that provides stunning kiln-dried slabs and lumber products as well as creative and eye-catching finished products. The team has done some amazing builds from giant board room furniture pieces and ping-pong tables to interior design elements like countertops and kitchen islands. Another thing that sets this company apart besides their use of salvaged trees and involvement in their quality control from tree to table, is the way they make each build an experience.

Creating an Experience with Kiln Dried Slabs and Snapshots

On their Instagram, you can see not only the finished products and installs but also the process along the way and a great layout of their raw materials. They have a way of including a variety of moments on their feed that make us feel like we’re all a part of the journey.

Great videos of them loading the iDRY kiln, pictures of the people behind the brand sharing family moments and fun times in the business as well as behind the scenes snapshots of their filming and photography process all surrounded by exceptional slabs and the gorgeous products some of those slabs turn into. They are also members of the Virginia Urban Wood Group and of course, members of the iDRY family.
