Top Quality Materials and Information with Rackensack Kilns

In this industry, we are very fortunate to work with many incredibly passionate people and companies dedicated to creating the highest-quality wood products for their customers. This month we are featuring one of those fantastic wood companies, Rackensack Kilns.

When most folks think of lumber and furniture, they think of the end product, but honestly, what determines that final beauty and ultimately longevity is the processes that take place behind the scenes. While not every company is willing to be transparent and teach the community and their customers about what defines a high-quality product, Rackensack Kilns is one of the great ones.

From milling the initial tree, through the value-added processes like kiln drying, and then finally the finishing work, every aspect of how the tree is treated before it becomes a table (or other wood product) is critical. The team at Rackensack is more than willing to get in-depth on each of those essential aspects.

As with most things, however, not every process is created equally, and today we are going to use Rackensack Kiln's dedication to excellence to show you what we mean.

Going Above and Beyond for the Customer

One thing you will notice with this phenomenal company is the effort they put into communicating with, and educating those interested in their work. Transparency is an incredible quality for any company, and when one takes the time to not only involve their community and customers in their processes but also give extra information on them, it's worth celebrating.

The social feed for Rackensack is filled with beautiful pictures of their work and other photos that show their workflow and processes for turning logs into beautiful slabs and then pieces of furniture. Most importantly, they also use their platform as an educational tool.

Many people don't realize that wood products tend to warp, splinter, or go to pieces without kiln drying. Rackensack focuses on keeping an open and friendly atmosphere to assist hobbyists and woodworkers with industry questions. They also take the time to explain how things like bugs are dealt with when kiln drying.

An aspect that doesn't often get discussed in woodworking is that the vacuum kiln drying process will eliminate pests because of the temperature the kiln reaches and the vacuum nature. Other treatment processes that don't involve as efficient of a kiln can involve harmful chemicals.

Check out this caption and photo from a recent post from Rackensack to see what we mean about the power of educating your community and investing in high-quality equipment.

"Why do we VACUUM KILN DRY?

Well there is a list of reasons.

And WOOD PESTS are DEFINITELY on that list.

Just look at the WOOD PESTS one of our iDRY VACUUM KILNS eliminate on this last load!!

Wood harbors many types of invasive pests.

Many stay with the wood long after harvest, and even have the potential to stay with the wood as it enters your home.

Our VACUUM KILN-DRIED WOOD is dried to the perfect stable moisture content allowing you to safely create, and this same process eliminates bugs (like the bugs shown) from further damaging the wood/entering your home.

NO HARMFUL CHEMICALS USED!"

The Woodworkers Friend

As we heard when Loren from Rackensack Kilns was on the Woodpreneur Podcast, this team has said that any project where a tree has a story behind it or a history has a special place in their hearts.

This philosophy is underlined even further when you look at the company's social presence. Each post has a story and is used as an opportunity to show their love for this industry, their customers, their community, and ultimately passion for what they do. This passion also shines through in the investments they have made into the quality processes of their business. This team has the capability to run multiple kilns of vacuum-dried wood and has exceptional milling and finishing equipment.

In addition to working with local lumber and slabs, Rackensack Kilns also does in-house metal-working and in-house epoxy work. This versatility makes them an extremely well-rounded one-stop-shop for creating beautiful custom furniture or sourcing raw materials for other woodworkers or hobbyists.

Due to their dedication to expanding the knowledge of this industry, they have been referred to as the "Woodworkers Friend," and from their slab Saturday events, beautiful inventory of products, and wealth of information, we believe that nickname is exceptionally well earned.
