iDRY Kiln Tours With Martin Woodworking
Recently we saw Martin Woodworking on Outdoors with the Morgans and we were so pleased that they took the time to teach about their iDRY kiln!
As Chris explains the kiln what he says it boils down to is that it does a really good job. He goes on to explain (expertly might we add) the difference between an iDRY Vacuum Kiln and a traditional kiln. The vacuum kiln does three key things differently that Chris dives into in the video.
It’s airtight and creates a vacuum that naturally pulls moisture.
It removes the oxygen from the chamber and starves any bugs or pests of it killing them.
It helps facilitate faster evaporation.
For this iDry user Highlight, we want to shout out Chris and Nikki Martin and their family, the owners of Martin Woodworking!
The First Kiln Purchase
Martin Woodworking does custom woodworking, and also furniture making for folks in the local area. Eventually, they decided to get into kiln drying as they were having some trouble finding properly dried wood.
This was a huge issue as Martin Woodworking can’t make something and it comes back later a year later cracked or warped because the wood wasn’t properly dried. As Chris says, it reflects badly on his company and tarnishes the name of his company when something like that happens, even though it was largely outside of his control.
To solve the problem Chris and Nikki turned to kiln drying and decided to be in control of that quality process. When they found iDRY they jumped right in. That was almost a year ago and now the team is drying between 1500 and 1800 board feet of lumber each dry cycle.

The iDRY Family

Chris then goes on to explain how the temperature that the kiln reaches also helps with killing pests and sanitizes the wood right to the core.
After an awesome kiln tour, Chris talks a little bit about the control panel and the drying process.
